Most of us have encountered difficulties at work. We know that if problems are not dealt with quickly and effectively, they can damage morale, affect health and lower productivity. With the introduction of new dispute resolution legislation and guidance, the government is seeking to encourage employers and employees to resolve disputes internally at an early stage.
One of the most innovative forms of early dispute resolution is mediation whereby an independent, neutral third party facilitates discussion between the people involved in the dispute with the aim of reaching a mutually acceptable solution. Mediation is future focused and solution-seeking. Wherever relationships are important, mediation and early conflict resolution offer timely alternatives to more adversarial methods of tackling disputes.
Grampian Racial Equality Council offers a workplace mediation service to organisations across Scotland. Qualified since 2002, our Director, Jeannie Felsinger, a member of the Scottish Mediation Network, has vast experience of dispute resolution.
Additionally, GREC offers courses on informal early conflict resolution and on mediation. The courses are specifically designed to help participants develop the essential skills needed in these roles. The training is suitable for managers, HR, welfare and diversity staff, trade unions, trainers and anyone who may benefit from developing conflict resolution skills.
