GREC Celebrating 25 YearsGrampian Racial Equality Council (GREC) was established in the mid-1980s (we are now in our 25th year) to tackle discrimination as defined by, and within the confines of, the Race Relations Act 1976, and strengthened and complemented by the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000.

As of April 1st 2011 we will be called: Grampian Regional Equality Council.

At present we have 5 full-time staff, 7 part-time staff, a seconded Police Officer from Grampian Police based at GREC full-time and a band of dedicated volunteers. We regularly provide placements for school pupils on work experience and we are available as a New Deal placement.

GREC's staff are the Director, the Senior Race Equality Officer, the Office Manager, the Receptionist/Admin Worker, the Caseworker, the Design Manager, the Counsellor, the Statistics Specialist, the Interpreting & Translation Co-ordinator, the Employability Co-ordinator, the Billingual Health Link Worker, the Gypsy Traveller Liaison Worker, Police Secondee and a number of project workers.

With regard to Casework - GREC works in close partnership with the Equality and Human Rights Commission, the national statutory body dealing with discrimination.

GREC is an autonomous voluntary organisation which brings together representatives from the statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and individuals who support the aims of the Council.

GREC's mission statement:
GREC is working with others to ensure that everyone is valued for who they are and is able to contribute with encouragement and without fear of discrimination or unfair treatment.
